PROFILE – HARSHA DE SILVA
Harsha De Silva has been in active coaching for the past 20 years from junior development to National level. He is a Cricket Australia level 3 Accredited Coach since 2008. He is the current Head Coach of Valleys District Cricket Club’s women’s team in the Brisbane Premier Grade Competition. He was the Club Coach of Wynnum Manly District Cricket Club in the Brisbane Premiere Grade Competition for 3 seasons. WMDCC 1st Grade won a one day premiership in 2014 and were the finalists in 2015 during his tenure.
He moved to Australia in 2013 after been granted a ‘Distinguish Talent Visa’ by the Australian Government on offer for people who are internationally recognised for exceptional and outstanding achievements in sport. Prior to his arrival in Australia, he worked for Sri Lanka Cricket as the Head Coach of the Women’s National Team. He came to the limelight guiding the Women’s team to victories against England, India and South Africa in the 2013 World Cup in India. They made the super 6 stage of the tournament for the first time and finished 5th in ODI rankings.
He started his coaching career at his Alma Mater, St. Joseph’s College, Colombo in 1996 as a junior coach. He was promoted as the Head Coach of the school in 2001. The 9 seasons he was there he displayed his ability as a player development coach with many of his charges representing National age group teams. Current Sri Lanka National players Angelo Mathews, Thisara Perera and Dimuth Karunaratne are players who were mentored by him at Joes. He guided Joes to 4 All Island senior age group Championships during his tenure. He also guided them to their last Joe-Pete Big Match win in 2008 after a lapse 36 years.
He also worked as the Head Coach of Ragama Cricket Club from 2007 to 2010 with their Under 23 and Premiere teams. RCC U23 was declared Joint Champions in the All Island Premiere Limited Over Comp in 2009. He also worked as the Analyst for Ruhuna Royals in the Inaugural Sri Lanka Premiere League in 2012.
He played First Class Cricket for Colombo Colts Cricket Club from 1991 to 1996. He also played First XI cricket for Joes from 1987 to 1991.
